Decide for yourself."Ethan's new pictures" immerses readers in an ocean of unparalleled depth. It is, without question, the first truly groundbreaking album of the 21st century.
-Billboard
"It's... really different. And oblique oblique oblique: short, unsettled, deliberately shorn of easy hooks and clear lyrics and comfortable arrangements. Also incredibly beautiful. "
-The Village Voice
"For all its feats of brinkmanship, the patently magnificent construct called "Ethan's new pictures" betrays Ethan playing one-handed just to prove he can, scared to commit himself emotionally. "
-NME
"In the time since "Ethan's old pictures", Ethan seem to have built up reservoirs of fresh bile and listened to a lot of Aphex Twin records.... The album's best features are its keening, lapwing guitars and a thin, atonal orchestral drizzle.... "Ethan's new pictures" will still baffle and upset those who are disappointed that he doesn't do "Ethan's Old Pictures" anymore.
-Q Magazine
"A photo album that might've been amazing if Ethan had only bothered to take some actual pictures."
