Floated away

There was a torrential rain-and-hailstorm here a few days ago. I missed the flooding of our street (I was at work at the time), but apparently the water approached knee deep; everyone had to move their cars to higher ground. Kaitlin, exhibiting the swift problem-solving for which she is known, rigged up a shelter for my outdoor plants using an American flag (which had previously occupied my classroom for Pledge of Allegiancing purposes) and a piece of plastic sheeting. It protected our spindly tomato plants remarkably well, but when I arrived home I discovered that a tray of basil seedlings was missing without a trace. Considering the volume of the deluge, I can only imagine they floated away down Magazine Street to parts unknown.

It's a shame, but I was honestly neglecting them anyway. Hopefully, the water deposited them miles away on the front yard of someone who has ample planting space with relatively low levels of lead*, ideally someone who has been frustrated with the blandness of his or her sauces in the past. Good luck.

*this is unlikely
